Africa’s AI Policy Scorecard: A Blueprint for What’s Working and What’s Next

AI is a priority for African governments. The continent’s AI policy landscape is taking shape. Several countries are creating national AI strategies. They are setting up innovation hubs. We are tracking this progress with our AI Policy Scorecard. The scorecard measures regulatory clarity, investment, and talent development. It provides a blueprint for what’s working and what’s next.

The scorecard will highlight key countries that have made progress. Rwanda’s government, for example, is building an AI hub with support from the Gates Foundation. Nigeria is also developing its own national AI strategy. These examples show a positive trend.

However, there are still gaps. Many countries lack a clear AI policy. This hinders investment and talent development. The scorecard will help us identify these gaps. We will use these findings at ABF to guide future policy recommendations. Our goal is to help African governments create a clear and supportive policy environment for AI.

The Call to Action

Our goal is to help African governments create a clear and supportive policy environment for AI. We believe that ABF is the ideal platform for this. There will be dedicated sessions on this topic where policymakers and innovators will come together to discuss and contribute to this.
