#ABF2026

The Silicon Savannah Just Got a New Crown Jewel. ABF2026 Is Coming to Nairobi.

Nairobi was not chosen because it was the next city on a list; it was chosen because it earned it.

Nairobi has worn many crowns. The city that gave the world M-Pesa. East African headquarters for Google, Microsoft, and a growing list of global tech companies. A startup ecosystem that has produced companies competing internationally. The unofficial capital of a continental tech renaissance that has been building, quietly and then very suddenly, for the better part of a decade.

In October 2026, Nairobi adds another: host city of Africa Blockchain Festival 2026, the continent’s most significant annual gathering for blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital policy.

The decision was deliberate. ABF convener Olubunmi Fabanwo is direct about the reasoning: Nairobi is where the East African blockchain and fintech ecosystem is concentrated, where the regulatory environment is engaging digital assets seriously, and where a developer community exists that can compete with any tech hub on the continent.

What Kigali built

To understand why ABF’s arrival in Nairobi matters, it helps to know what the inaugural 2025 edition established. More than 1,600 attendees from across Africa and internationally. Binance as title sponsor. OKX, Tether, Bybit, MEXC, Stellar Foundation, Aptos Foundation, and Polytope Labs as global partners. Regulators from Rwanda’s National Bank, Nigeria’s SEC, and pan-African bodies in working sessions. Twenty-five startups pitching to investors. A Pan-African Hackathon that surprised observers who had not been paying close enough attention to what African developers are building.

At the close of three days, ABFLabs was announced: a permanent policy think tank and venture studio, designed to carry the festival’s work into the rest of the year.

ABF 2025 was one of the most consequential technology events held on the African continent last year. Its successor comes to Nairobi.

Why Nairobi, and why now

Kenya’s relationship with financial technology is, in global terms, unparalleled. M-Pesa proved the concept decades before anyone else. The ecosystem built around it has produced companies that are not just locally significant but globally competitive. Kenya’s Capital Markets Authority has moved to engage the digital asset sector with a seriousness that contrasts favourably with comparable regulators in other markets.

The regulatory environment is characterised by dialogue rather than prohibition. That is exactly the posture ABF’s policy track is designed to support and accelerate.

What to expect from ABF 2026

Three-day multi-stage format. Main Stage for keynotes and ministerial sessions. Policy Stage for regulatory roundtables. Innovation Stage for startup pitches, hackathon, and workshops. Exhibition floor for 70-plus companies. Block & Chill Nairobi for evening networking. An Innovation Hub tour of Nairobi’s leading tech spaces.

Local inclusion remains a core commitment. ABF 2025 offered free access for all Rwandan citizens and sponsored over 500 student tickets. ABF 2026 brings the same commitment to Nairobi.

The platform Nairobi’s ecosystem has been building toward. October 15-17, 2026 is when the world comes to see it.
